Gate+: an AI-powered smart kiosk system

A connected smart-vending product linking mobile access, cabinet hardware, camera-based inventory checks, and operational software. Gate+ reached 45 locations and processed more than 100,000 orders, including workplace locations associated with leading organizations.

My role: Chief Technology Officer. I led product and engineering direction across the software, computer-vision, and connected-device work described in this case.

The challenge

Traditional vending machines have not kept pace with mobile, AI, and connected-device technology. Gate+ brings a more natural office shopping experience: open a cabinet like the fridge at home, take what you want, and carry on.

The approach

Download the Gate+ app and save a payment card. Scan the QR code on a cabinet to unlock it, take the products you want, and close the door. Gate+’s AI identifies what left the shelf and what was put back, then charges the registered card for the final selection within seconds. Yes, it can tell when you take something and return it, too.

Technical scope

To make cabinet shopping work without a checkout desk, Gate+ linked physical events to the payment flow. Scanning a QR code starts a session and the door lock controls access; cameras and sensors capture shelf changes. Raspberry Pi shelf devices and a main controller bridge that hardware to the software. YOLO-based vision identifies products taken or returned, while Socket.io sends cabinet events to kiosk and mobile clients. Closing the door triggers selection reconciliation, payment, and inventory updates within seconds.

Outcome

Gate+ reached 45 workplace locations and processed more than 100,000 orders, including sites serving teams at Apple, Bosch, Acun Medya, Henkel, and other organizations. It turned office shopping into a self-service micro-market: users open the cabinet with a mobile QR scan, take or return products, and leave without a checkout step. Computer vision recognizes the final selection, charges the saved card, and updates stock within seconds, giving workplace teams a fast, fridge-like experience and operators a clear view of sales and inventory across the network.
